Does your brain ever feel like a computer browser with 100 tabs open?
You have one tab open for “Dinner Plans,” another for “The Kids’ Exams,” one for “Pending Orders,” and a background tab playing a constant loop of “What if everything goes wrong?”
If you feel this way, you are not alone. In our fast-paced world, anxiety has become our default setting. But as Muslims, we have a formula—an equation—that can help us solve this.
The Root Cause: The Illusion of Control
We often think our stress comes from not knowing the future. We tell ourselves, “If I just knew what will happen next year, I would be calm.” But that is not true. Stress actually comes from trying to be the CEO of the Universe. We exhaust ourselves planning Scenario A, B, and C for problems that haven’t even happened yet.
The Spiritual Shift: True Tawakkul
So, how do we fix this? The answer lies in understanding Tawakkul (Trust in Allah). True Tawakkul is a mental shift. It is the act of “retiring” from the job of Managing the World. It means you do your part—you study for the exam, you cook the meal, you post the product—and then you clock out mentally.
Your Homework for Today
If you are feeling overwhelmed right now, take five minutes to do this:
- Identify one specific thing you are overthinking today.
- Make Dua for it specifically.
- Let it go. Visually close that “tab” in your brain.
